Cosplayer Spotlight - PerlerTricks Art and Cosplay
Posted by Pat Kenrick on
Brian is a fantastic cosplay artist. His reimagining of characters in different times and settings is unique and breathtaking.
What is your name? Do you have a cosplay handle/name you use?
Brian H. I go by PerlerTricks Art and Cosplay
How can people find you? (facebook, Instagram, website)
@PerlerTricks on Instagram and Facebook
How long have you been cosplaying?
5 years
Why do you cosplay?
I always loved dressing up in costumes, be it for Halloween or spirit weeks at school. Once I discovered I could dress up more frequently, and more elaborately for conventions, I was sold. I also love making things and learning new processes. Cosplay allows me to constantly learn new skills.
What was your first cosplay?
I actually started making cosplays for my son before I took the plunge. The first one I made for him was Magneto.
What has been your favorite cosplay project?
I recently finished a post-apocalyptic Woody from Toy Story complete with RC Car. He has been my favorite build to date.
What was your first convention you cosplayed at?
The first convention I cosplayed at was Cincinnati Comic Expo.
What does cosplay mean to you?
For me, cosplay is a chance to hang out with my kids, fellow geeks, and fellow artists, exchange ideas and processes, and overall, just have a blast, refusing to grow up.
What advice would you have to a new cosplayer, or someone who wants to get into the hobby?
Just do it. I was intimidated for a few years before I made my first costume. I wish I had those years back. Also, get plugged into a local cosplay community to share ideas and get help when you run into problems.
What character is your dream cosplay?
I would love to build Teeny Weeny from the Neverending Story with his racing snail. I don't know where I'd store him though.
